Ron Paul Introduces New Legislation To Curb FBI Abuses of Privacy
Today Ron Paul and three other legislators introduced the National Security Letters Reform Act of 2007 to curb recently disclosed privacy abuses by the FBI in the issuance of National Security Letters. This is desperately needed reform.
The legislation provides NSL recipients (public libraries and other public institutions) expanded rights to challenge the Letters, and gives "targets" (individuals being spied on) rights to legal counsel and notification that information collected on them will be used in future proceedings. It's a shame these rights have been ignored until now.
Hopefully this will start a movement towards the eventual elimination of the dreaded Patriot Act.
