Bush denial deepens as Iraq reconciliation remains stalled

Bush committed to staying in Iraq despite report findings and increasing party dissent

WASHINGTON -- Despite the largely negative assessment of the situation in Iraq in a report released Thursday, President Bush continues to believe that seeing the mission through is imperative.
The report, mandated by Congress, found that the Iraqi government had partially reached eight of 18 benchmarks and that security on the ground remains “complex and extremely challenging.”
