Growing pains in Mongolia
You have to admit, there are very few places you can go to find commentary on Mongolian land reform. But it's interesting because it tells us a lot about the sociology and economics of growth and the struggle to maintain tradition. Many underdeveloped countries lack private property rights. In fact we see that the more robust property rights protections are, the less likely debilitating poverty and oppressive government will be the norm. So the efforts of Mongolia's leaders to move from a culture of herders and communalism towards a free market capitalist state can offer a great deal of insight into the right and wrong steps towards assuring meaningful reform while maintaining stability.
