Death of a Legend

On March 1st, a legend in libertarian circles succumbed to Lou Gerhig's disease. Harry Browne was an investment banker, libertarian activist and two time presidential candidate. He wrote several influential books and climbed to #1 on the New York Times best seller list. In spite of his many accomplishments, I believe that Browne represented an old, outdated and radical form of libertarianism that, while philosophically consistent, never served the party or the movement well. So while The Freeman's Burden mourns the passage of this great lover of liberty, we look to a future where the Libertarian Party breaks away from the dogmatic and radical views he held and looks forward to a time when we have the credibility and support we need to reshape America as a land truly "of the free."
